Credit Cards have become very popular in the UK since their introduction in 1966. Did you know that debit cards were introduced
after credit cards in 1987? Here are some more interesting facts and statistics about credit cards:-
- In recent years the number of credit cards that have been issued has increased 32%
- 56% of adults hold a credit card or a charge card
- In 1967 ATMs or cashpoints were introduced but it wasn't until mid 1970's that the magnetic strip was introduced

- There are about 6 million cash withdrawals from ATMs per day and the average withdrawal is £58

- Our average creidt card retail purchase is about £54
- UK card holders spent about £188 billion in 2001 on UK card based retail transactions
- The average loss per lost or stolen plastic card was £448 in 2001 through fraudulent use
- The majority of credt card fraud in the UK takes place at the retain point of sale (69%+)
